Jason's Review of Bioshock progresses here! If you haven't read the first part, click here to correct your mistake before moving on to the second part of this review.
As the game progresses, the history of Rapture is revealed to an extent, and the player learns three very valuable things, which are:
1: Guns are commonplace and are crucial to ones survival
2:The discovery of a substance called ADAM has granted Humans to augment their biological makeup to grant them powers akin to modern-day superheroes(such as pyrokinesis, telekenesis, and the ability to shoot lightning bolts from their fingertips)

Three uses of ADAM, from the fingertips!
3: The environment of Rapture is at times lethal, to the player character and to his/her enemies.

Rapture's environment is lethal.
The discovery of ADAM has granted Humans the afore-mentioned superpowers, but at a terrible cost. Overusage of ADAM is addictive, and over prolonged use, can turn a Human into a crazed bloodthirsty killing machine with only one purpose: To search for more ADAM to sustain themselves. Such people are known as Splicers, who are the players main enemies in the game. Armed with a variety of guns, powers, and other armaments, they are in no way informidable opponents.

What is perhaps most important for the player to learn, more so than the aforementioned rules, is the way in which ADAM is harvested; due to shortages of the substance, the citizens of Pre-Dystopian Rapture had to find a way to recycle the ADAM in a humans body. They did this by implanting a parasite in young girls bodies(which where the only beings capable of hosting said parasites) and giving them mental conditioning to search out dead bodies of ADAM users and drain their blood with specialised syringes, which would contain ADAM to be used for other purposes. The parasite enabled them to harbor the excessive amount of ADAM and also made them near-invulnerable to damage, but they were still little girls and thus could be overpowered. Thus the Big Daddies were made, huge men in steel diving suits with the purpose of protecting their Little Sister till they were dead.

Little Sisters, and Big Daddies. Nice names!
To develop their character, the player must encounter these Sister/Daddy duos, and kill the Big Daddy to access the ADAM stored within the Little Sisters body through two methods: Killing the Little Sister and harvesting the maximum amount of ADAM available, or reverting them to their original state, but receiving less ADAM in the process. This is the earlier aforementioned moral choice the player faces.

The combination of all these factors, and amazing storyline, and innovative character development system which merges nicely with the moral system, and a variety of enmies amidst a backdrop of visually stunning environments and backgrounds mix to make one of the sweetest Gaming Cake Mixes known to the FPS Genre, and is, as a result, a brilliant game that I would recommend to anyone who likes the FPS Genre, or are seeking a new game for play on their console(since it has been 4 years since its release, it is probably around 20 pounds for purchase at a high street store, possibly less online).
