Bioshock is an action-adventure and horror First Person Shooter in an underwater dystopian setting, made by Irrational Games, formerly known as 2K Boston. In the game(which was developed for XBOX 360, PS3, PC), the player is encouraged to use everything they see in the highly detailed and interactive environment of Rapture(more on Rapture later) to dispatch their enemies. The game also features a variety of choices that are tailored specifically to challenge the players moral views; are they sentimental players who care about the virtual situation, or are they players that see the game as it is(that is to say, fictional), and simply seek the rewards from seeking the morally wrong path(s)? The game was very positively received by critics in the year of its release, winning the "Game of the Year for PC 2007".

The Sea of Dreams
Bioshock is set in an alternate universe to ours, in the early 1960's. It focuses on the underwater city of Rapture, which was a city proposed by the great thinkers, writers, artists and related men and women of the world to be a place where said professions and industry would not be affected by any form of authority or Government, be it a Communist Government, Capitalist, or Religious(such as the government). Rapture was designed to have next to no limitations for a man to do what he wanted in life. People from around the world flocked to the city in the 1940's, which was termed "The Vanishing".

Jack Ryan, Bioshock's Protagonist
The game starts with the player character, a man named Jack, being in a plane crash across the Atlantic Ocean and being the sole survivor. He proceeds to swim to an offshore lighthouse which contains a bathysphere(a form of underwater transportation) leading into the depths of the murky sea. On the way, a small monitor in the sphere broadcasts information about the city, and should the player look out, they are greeted with a beautiful panoramic view of the underwater city of Rapture, which emulates American Cities of the time period, except underwater, complete with neon lights and skyscrapers which are, again, all underwater. Upon his arrival at the Bathysphere station, Jack(who is a silent protagonist) is greeted with an eerie atmosphere, being sealed in his bathysphere with no one to let him out, with signs of riots and obvious disuse in the station around him. His bathysphere is suddenly attacked by an unseen assailant who seems to be at least part human with hooks for hands, and after this initial encounter, Jack is contacted by a man outside his bathysphere who attempts to bargain with the assailant, who then murders him and then continues with her assault. Then, a mysterious entity known as "Atlas" contacts Jack through a radio built in to the bathysphere, sending a robot to chase away the assailant(who would return later), and briefs Jack of the situation in Rapture, but not before pleading him to help him find his family who are apparently still trapped in Rapture, which has become a dystopia and a living hell to be in.
