Tyler's debut Starcraft II review
"Starcraft. It is definitely a game of two cities, or in this case, three. The first sort of person to buy it would be a die-hard, strategy loving player who has been loyal since SCI. The second, someone who read reviews and hype, and bought it. The third is someone who picks it off the shelves for the fancy cover art. All of them, however, will be roped into the craze and fun that is Starcraft II."

THEY DO NOT PAY US ENOUGH FOR THIS! GET TO DA CHOPPAAA!

The campaign itself is distinguished from any other strategy game. Rather than the usual build base, mass units, upgrade, mass more units, attack other base, next level formula, SCII adds in other items and objectives. One unique mission has you mining for minerals on a lava planet, which will overflow every few minutes, meaning you will have to stop all production for the duration of the lava flow. There is another when you must obtain an artifact from a protoss home world (the protoss being psychic aliens), however, the sun nearest that planet is supernova, sending a slow moving wave of fire across the map. This means you are constantly moving around, and are always on the back foot.

'The multiplayer, however, is where Starcraft II really shines.'
The multiplayer, however, is where Starcraft II really shines. You have a choice of playing Protoss, Terran or Zerg in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, 4v4 or any of those vs AI. The multiplayer is varied in strategy. Some choose to cheese (hold up in their base), some choose to proxy (build a structure in an enemy’s base and flank them), some choose a rush (a quick attack with weak, quick units at the beginning of the game), but most decide to climb the tech tree, building the likes of Siege Tanks, Thors (battle walkers) and Battlecruisers along the way. The first thing that differs SCII from other strategy games, however, is the speed of it all. My first online game was over in minutes, as I had tried to climb the tech tree, and was bombarded with enemy marines, which quickly overrun my few Thors.

Jimmy approves of this top-notch game
Starcraft II does require an internet connection to install, but not to play. SCII also includes challenges, which are tutorials aimed at newer players, teaching them the mechanics of online play and frequently used tactics. However, although the best part of SCII is the multiplayer, in no way does that mean that the campaign alone is not worth the money. Most would pay separately if they had to!

Scores:

What you will like

·        Deep storyline

·        Amazing Graphics

·        Fast-paced, online play

What you won’t

·        If you are new to strategy, it may seem a bit harsh on you

·        Being destroyed online by veterans

·        Hopes being crushed at the last second of play due to incredibly difficult gameplay

Final Result: 9.5/10
The deep, action packed gameplay with lovely graphics pack this game a punch, but if you're new to the Starcraft series, this game can be rather harsh and unforgiving at times.
