Hi, I'm Seth Rogen! But you can call me Paul.

No, not Ed. No! Anyone but him!
The long awaited film starring the comedy duo Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, and a very special alien called Paul has finally arrived, and it is now Ed, our resident anarchist geek's job to review it. Bearing in mind that the following review is 15-rated, like the film, click Read More and enjoy Ed's unique reviewing style, edited by Chris.

Paul is eager to impress
Seeing as it's my first review (My Friends Rant wasn't really a review - more of a rant. *rolls eyes*) , and I want to make a really good impression as a review-ist (?) I feel I should be really nasty about whatever it is I am reviewing... However, I seem to be at a loss for things I can make fun of.

Paul is genuinely the best film I have seen in a long time. Following the adventures of two nerds who have encountered Ewoks, Clive Gollings (Nick Frost) and Graeme Willy (Simon Pegg) , that find an alien fugitive on the run from the CIA called Paul ("It's a nickname that stuck!"), voiced by Seth Rogen. On the way they meet a fundamentalist Christian, Ruth Buggs (Kristen Wiig), who at first believes Paul is a demon sent from Hell but eventually comes around and helps them on their quest to help him.

As you can imagine, this leads to inevitable hilarious consequences. Paul beautifully balances these comedic aspects with sensitive and meaningful scenes, making the film more than just a two hour sketch show.

Ewok encounter
And of course it appeals to us geeks. I felt like the biggest dork in the multiverse when they made a Star Wars reference (shooting the radio and saying "Boring conversation anyway") and I was the only person in the entire cinema who laughed. There are also parts in which Clive speaks Klingon, Paul gives Steven Spielberg movie advice and even the actress from the cherished Alien movies Sigourney Weaver as the chief bad guy. There were similar references only a colossal nerd like myself would get tributing Star Trek, Back To The Future and probably some more I didn't even spot. Due to this it may be only fully enjoyed by the more nerdy people among us, not reaching the level of expectations for viewers of the film who have girlfriends.

In short, I highly recommend Paul to anyone interested in Sci-Fi, Comedies, or even just a good old film that is, quite honestly, out of this world.

(Pun intended).
