Team Creepy Black finally releases it's DEMO Patch. The game is based on a story posted on Tinycartridge.

The patch only works on a FireRed v1 ROM, not on a FireRed v1.1 ROM and it will only work on emulators/flashkits capable of using the GBA BIOS (e.g. No$GBA, NDS-GBA, EZ-Flash etc.).

Instructions
:
1) Download 7Zip/WinRAR
2) Google 'Lunar IPS Patcher'
3) Download VisualBoyAdvance
4) Download the FireRed v1.0 ROM (Link cannot be posted here due to copyright restrictions)

5) Use the Lunar IPS GUI to apply the .ips file in the .rar archive to the extracted FireRed .gba file
6) Start VisualBoyAdvance
7) Depending on your Eeprom Setup, you may get 'Battery Not Found' or something along those lines. If you don't get this, skip to Step 10.

8) IF you get this error, or another kind of error similar to this, just go to (in VBA) Options>Emulator>Save Type> Flash 128K. If this does not work, revert to Flash 64K and back. If this step doesn't work, go to the next step.

9) Start Playing the game with the patched ROM, and immediately take a Save State .sgm file on arrival in Pallet Town. If you can't do this, go to our forum at http://cffilm.weebly.com/forumsearch.html#axzz1EWJMpRId and we will be happy to help if you post in the Help and Support sub-topic with your problem.

10) Play :)

So it's pretty much just like the story, except the pokemon aren't dying, and you can't battle the actual trainer and kill him or her. Are you still adding that part? Just wondering if this game is going to be just like the creepypasta story.

just downloaded it and im not gonna lie, pretty dissappointed....it doesnt follow the creepypasta very well....the battles dont cut to black in the demo when ghost uses curse, the enemy doesnt faint, there is no text, or anything. basically it feels like you just created an over powered pokemon not something that deals out death.

personally im more interested in REIDD's work on his "cursed black" version. it follows the creepypasta as closely as possible and he uses the original pokemon gb game, the old school makes it feel more creepy kind of like the original chainsaw massacre is scarier than the remake because it looks grittier. he hasn't released a demo yet but it looks good. not saying the version that you guys here are creating is bad, it just doesnt have the feel that it need in my opinion.

First of all, I would like to say that the original story from which this concept stems was written quite well. I also watched the extended version retold on youtube that seems to complete the idea, and it all fits together.

However, I think this idea will forever remain best suited as a story rather than an actual game. The person making the story up might have taken a day or two to think it up and put it into words, but programming something like that, either from scratch or through hacking a currently existing pokemon game, would take a significant amount of not only programming/disassembling experience, but also a lot of time and effort on the developer's part.

If hacking a pre-existing game, I'm not even sure if it's possible, because the save file format for the pokemon games, since it is not a default functionality, does not support any kind of listing for "killed" beings (for the part of playing them back at the end). So the developer would have to add something like this in themselves. As for how doable this is, I'm not entirely sure. All I know is: from a technical point of view, turning this idea into a reality would not be an easy task at all.

If you think about it as well, unless there are a lot of other spooky additions along the way throughout the game's storyline, it would essentially just be playing a normal pokemon game of whatever base version it's core is from, with just an OP, modified "GHOST" pokemon. The only highlights would be what was outlined in the story already... and since you likely read it, seeing the real thing wouldn't be too much of a difference. What I'm trying to say is: the story still seems more impressive from an attention-grabbing point of view.

That aside, commenting now purely on this hack/mod/whatever:

I'm not trying to be mean or a troll here, but to be honest, this hack is quite disappointing... I'm going to have to agree with the commenter that said it above...

First of all, the starting screen is not hacked at all, and looks nothing like the story describes it should. The beginning is essentially normal. A little later on, you get your starter pokemon, face your rival, and after that, you finally get the GHOST. The other people aren't really hacked either, the stuff really looks and works the same for whatever you can access, you just have an OP "GHOST" that can 1-hit everything (and even that is buggy, you can't 1hko enemies with the "sturdy" ability that prevents them from being able to be 1hko'd, as you can experience in Brock's gym; yet another fail). The only other hacked sprite I noticed was the tour person tells you to go in the museum and doesn't lead you to the gym like normal, but that was about it. Other than that, as mentioned above, the path to route 3 is blocked off by a fence, which, despite not even looking to covering the whole area needed to look like it's blocking it off completely, blocks it off completely. I assume this impassable barrier is there due to it being a "demo" version of the hack. Saving is also broken; you have to use save states to store your progress.

That is from a point of view of what you can see initially. Now, if you are like me, you will play around with this a bit.

First off, the fence blocking off the rest of the game was easy to bypass... Make a save state close by, close everything, rename your patched version of the game to something temporary and rename your clean fire red to the name you used for the hacked version. Load up VBA (I used VBA, anyways...) and load the save state. If the fence is still there, change the map you're in (enter a poke-center or something), then go back out so the map is reloaded. The fence is now gone as it is in the normal game. You can now proceed to pass the area the fence is located at, store another save state, then close it all up and rename the hacked version back to normal and continue playing the hacked game past the fence like normal. Since the fence was there, I'm assuming it means nothing beyond that point was hacked at all. I played past it for a while, and noticed nothing else hacked. If you feel like playing around with that OP ghost, you can do this.

While I loaded up the clean fire red with the hacked save state, I also looked at some other things. "GHOST" is really Jirachi (or at least using it's ID), and the modified "Curse" is really Guillotine with 99 PP and 255 accuracy. (For anyone wondering, 255 because it is the max value an unsigned byte data type can hold, and that is the data type used to store the accuracy variable). Trying to view "GHOST"'s data in a clean fire red copy results in the game locking up almost immediately.

All in all, there wasn't much at all hacked, even to the point that it was "limited" to, and it seems that sadly, development will never start up again. Whoever started this must have just had a little burst of excitement to get it started, then later lost motivation and never worked on it again. As it stands, it is essentially a s

slightly modified, broken version of fire red of which normal saving seems to be broken almost entirely, you start off with an OP "GHOST" after your first battle with your rival, play the game essentially otherwise normally until the first gym battle, then you are fenced off from progressing any further in the game. The title screen and other elements are not true to the original story, and the screen does not turn black when you use "Curse", and (as seen from the first gym), some pokemon (other than ghost pokemon) can actually avoid even being affected by it entirely if they have the "sturdy" ability.

tl;dr: the story was a whole lot better.

I think it works. I do have the GHOST pokemon and the CURSE move, but when i defeat a wild pokemon it says "The wild "x" has fainted" instead of (unless this is different) "The wild "x" has died." Is that what is meant to happen or what?

I just got the Creepy Black Version and have enjoyed it so far. I few thing I was wondering about. Is this just their take on the creepy black fan fiction? Cause the only similarity I've seen so far is that you have "GHOST" after fighting your rival the first time. This is cool and all, but what about the screen turning black when curse is used and the enemy pokemon cries and vanishes? Also being able to use Curse on opposing trainers? I know that this is just the alpha, a demo if you will, but I was wondering if these things were going to be added eventually. I'm really not complaining because it looks amazing so far, I'm just inquiring. Thanks :-)

I've recently come across this story and was looking for a rom of it.
I found this rom and looked up some let's plays and I noticed something off.
This rom hack looks a bit off from the original story I've read.
Which sounded more like there was an "anomaly" in the game called ghost. Ghost was described to do things to the game that weren't normal for the pokemon game it was.

One of the things I noticed was that the move ghost uses does not correspond with the description given in the story. And I must say, it is clearly a lot less creepy when the move has a pretty animation and a 1-hit KO message.

Is there some programming obstacle you can't get past?
Or has it simply not been completed yet?
I can't wait for this to be finished, ever since I heard about the stories of creepy stuff happening in pokemon games I've been intrigued by the idea of there actually being a pokemon game that had something like that hidden away in it. (sort of like an easter egg, a very... VERY creepy one xD)

In any case, I thought I should mention the presentation of this rom hack if it hadn't come to mind yet.
