Nintendo Network Revealed 27/01/2012
Nintendo's response to the PlayStation Network and Xbox Live has been revealed- in the form of the 'Nintendo Network'. The platform is being marketed as the 'successor' to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection and will work universally across Nintendo's eighth-generation games consoles, namely the 3DS and the upcoming 'Wii U'. With the Wi-Fi Connection enabling online gaming via friend codes for single games, the Nintendo Network is understood to unify all these codes into one single 'friend' code, the technology which allowed 'Friend List' on 3DS to communicate with Mario Kart 7's 'communities' feature. The network will also handle universal DLC downloads for first and third party titles, and Nintendo has publicly stated that it is 'considering the future possibility of digital distribution of packaged software', an apparent hint to the PS Vita's downloadable game function, as well as introducing the familiar concept of user accounts on its upcoming console, Wii U, a response to PSN names and Xbox Live Gamertags. Click 'Read More' to find out some official words about the network from Nintendo head honcho, Satoru Iwata. During an investors Q&A session, Nintendo boss Satoru Iwata-san, whose company recently posted a 48 Billion Yen loss last quarter, told investors: 'Unlike Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, which has been focused upon specific functionalities and concepts, we are aiming to establish a platform where various services available through the network for our consumers shall be connected via Nintendo Network service so that the company can make comprehensive proposals to consumers.' Regarding the Wii U's user account system, Iwata-san went on to say that he will 'tackle' the 'challenge' presented by a piece of 'hardware shared by multiple family members' and improve it by 'constructing and offering the system by combining a variety of different services and content,' In my opinion, the Nintendo Network sounds like a good leap forward for Nintendo, but then again, has this leap come just a little too late? ~Chris Add Comment Resident Evil 5 Review 26/01/2012
The follow up to the critically acclaimed 2005 hit Resident Evil 4 returns with new co-op and totally familiar gameplay to its critically acclaimed prequel. While the shooting and control scheme remains largely unchanged, still as stiff and stubborn (and loveable) as ever, RE5 takes the lean to action even further. Where in my review of RE4 I said that it drastically takes leaps and bounds away from the survival horror aspects of the PS1 classics, RE5 just goes that bit further and we’ve ended up with a game that might as well not be part of the Resident Evil series - whether that's good or not is quite frankly up for debate.
DOTA 2 Hero Previews-Jason 26/01/2012
So, you probably know that I got the Dota 2 Beta a while back. I've been playing it with ABSOLUTE zeal over the last 2 months. Rest assured, Valve are not messing it up for us;they're doing an excellent job. There's currently around 68 (very rough number, don't take it too literally) Heroes available for play at the moment, with a planned amount of 105. They're split quite evenly(between the three categories Strength,Intelligence,Agility), and balanced quite well, though as usual, there are some slightly broken heroes in the current roster, but Valve have been vigorously trying to iron out these imbalances, with Feedback Forums also being set up for players to report Overpowered heroes, glitches, and any other commonly encountered problems that they feel needs mentioning. At the moment, I would say the beta is at it's peak in terms of performance, with most glitches being ironed out as well as new updates constantly adding more and more to the game, from minor patches to big ass re-hauls. Anyway, back to ME. So, I've spent 90 hours on this game in the past 2 weeks, and I've come from a complete noob into a somewhat competent player(in my opinion). I have come to the conclusion that I can pretty effectively analyze a hero and point out his strengths and weaknesses and whatnot. So, I am very proud to announce my upcoming Dota 2 Hero Previews! Where I will offer my inferior opinion on heroes, how they should be played, and stuff. I think I'll start out with a fairly easy hero; Ursa, the Fuzzy Wuzzy Bear. I am also working on a Saints Row:The Third Review, however, where I have achieved 90% completion of (finished the main story), but this will most likely come after the first 5 Hero previews. However, If there's anyone reading this that is actually more interested in a Saint's Row Review than Dota 2 Hero previews, feel free to post a comment here stating as such, and I might just change my mind :p. That is, of course, if anyone comments. -Jason Dear Filmflux Visitors, I apologise on behalf of the whole Filmflux.Net team for the very high level of inactivity seen this January regarding posts and updates. This was due to a range of unforseen problems and technical issues, examinations and work with Sam and Harrison regarding the REPLICA project. We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience that this may have caused you, and we will resume activity immediately. We hope that in February we will have resumed a regular service at Filmflux.Net. However, even when we have been inactive this month, we have still managed to churn up quality instead of quantity with several news articles and high-quality reviews from the likes of Sam and Alex. Again, on behalf of the Filmflux.Net team, I apologise for the lack of updates- but stay tuned, because they'll all come flooding into your RSS Feed Reader's inbox next month! ~Chris The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Review by Sam 23/01/2012
First I’d like to apologise for my absence. I’ve been busy with Replica stuff. Also, I was kidnapped by a game called Skyrim…
So a while ago I wrote an article discussing differences between multi-platform games on each console. Since then I have heard much about the prolonged issues on the Playstation 3 port of The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. As I got the Xbox 360 port I will be reviewing only based upon my own playing experience (how many bugs, glitches and frame-rate issues I came across). Now, onto the actual review… (click read more) This is the first save-backup device that is directly compatible with Nintendo 3DS games. Yes, you read that right- Nintendo 3DS games. It isn’t just a save backup device that can ‘run with the 3DS’, but in fact, it can actually backup saves of games such as “Mario Kart 7” and “Super Mario 3D Land” and restore them too, as well as download new save-games from the R4i SaveDongle save-game archives. There’s so much to do, and for less than £10 on some websites, this little dongle is surely worth the cash. Or is it?
By the time of writing, the original news article posted on Filmflux had over 300 comments, all essentially asking whether Flipnote Memo, the successor to Flipnote Studio, will ever materialise or be released on the Nintendo eShop after Shigeru Miyamoto, Nintendo EAD General Manager announced the development of Flipnote Memo early in 2011.
After contacting Nintendo, commenter "hannah90" found out that "they [Nintendo] are still working on it they [sic] want to make it perfect they [sic] dont [sic] have any specific date,". So, Filmflux.Net contacted Nintendo of America regarding Flipnote Memo. Click "Read More" to read the response email. MCV, the renowned UK-operated games industry publication is reporting that a very reliable source has leaked to them that both Microsoft and Sony will be unveiling and showcasing their next-generation games consoles at E3 2012- the PlayStation 4 (PS4) and the "Next Xbox"/Xbox Successor (NXB). When questioned about the report, Ben Parfitt, an MCV employee tweeted: "Obviously we can't reveal our sources. But you have my personal word on this - the source is exemplary, 100% concrete, ultra high level," So, if MCV is to be believed, (which they should be) then this will be the first E3 Expo for 17 years that has all big 3 games companies' fresh, rival console formats will be competing directly. This unveiling could see all three new consoles coming out pre-Christmas 2012, with the WiiU's pricing revealed in June, too. Our advice? Put off buying all three current generation consoles, the Xbox 360, PS3 and the Wii for now, and see what E3 has to say about them. ~Chris REPLICA Official Teaser Trailer 02/01/2012
